improv danceThe TCU School for Classical & Contemporary Dance in Fort Worth, TX, is the 2012 host for the Texas Dance Improvisation Festival (TDIF). Coordinating the festival are Assistant Professor Nina Martin and Lecturer Sarah Newton.

TDIF celebrates improvisational dance in Texas and beyond, coming together as dance/music artists to share, inspire and challenge our improvising arts community.

An annual event, the festival has been previously hosted by Texas Woman’s University, Rice University and Northwest Vista College.

This year’s featured guest artist is Ray Chung, a performer, teacher, engineer, and artist, whose dancemaking is focused in improvisational methods. Chung is a master teacher of Contact Improvisation with an international reputation.

The festival opens with a Thursday night jam from 6-10 P.M., followed by two days of classes, performances, and jams with well-known teachers from Texas and beyond. Saturday night will feature performances by Chung and festival faculty at 7 P.M., followed by a jam from 9-12 P.M. The festival will be held at Erma Lowe Hall, 3000 South University Drive Fort Worth, TX 76129. Registration for the festival is $10 and provides participants access to all the classes and performances, $5 for those only attending the performance or a jam. Fees will be collected at the door. (Registration will be open soon.)
